            • RM-to-MP3-Converter
              RM-to-MP3-Converter

RM-to-MP3-Converter is a simple-to-use application that allows you to encode media files with the RM, RMVB, RAM and RA format to audio tracks with the MP3 or WAV extension. The interface of the software is plain and simple to navigate through. Media files can be imported by using the file browser only, since the "drag and drop" method is not supported. Batch processing is possible. All you have to do is specify the output format and destination, and proceed with the encoding process. In addition, you can modify audio parameters for each aforementioned format when it comes to the sample frequency rate, channels, bit rate, minimum and maximum bit rate, VBR and sample bits. These settings can be restored to their default values at any time. Plus, you can remove an item from the list. During the conversion process, you can check out the source and output path, total length along with two progress bars for the current position and file. Once the task is done, a message pops up to notify you if it was a success or not. The simple-to-use application requires a low-to-moderate amount of system resources, includes a comprehensive help file with snapshots for beginners, quickly finishes a task and manages to keep a very good sound quality in the output files. We haven't come across any issues during our tests, since RM-to-MP3-Converter did not freeze or crash. On the other hand, you cannot configure program settings (e.g. turn off the computer after conversion) and RM-to-MP3-Converter automatically overwrites files with the same names. Plus, the interface is outdated. Other than that, we strongly recommend RM-to-MP3-Converter to all users. Reviewed by Elena Opris, last updated on June 19th, 2012

              RM Audio Converter

RM Audio Converter is an application designed to help you encode media files to audio tracks with the MP3, WAV, WMA, OGG and RM formats. It can be easily used by beginners. The interface of the tool is plain and simple to work with. Media files can be imported into the queue via the file browser only, because the "drag and drop" method is not supported. Batch conversion is permitted. In the list you can check out the title, s\ource path, duration, size and status of each file. So, after you establish the output directory and extension, you can initiate the encoding process. In addition, you can customize audio parameters for each aforementioned output format when it comes to the sample frequency rate, channel mode, bit rate, quality, bits per sample, and others. Settings can be restored to their initial values. Furthermore, you can edit metadata (title, artist, album, year, genre, comment), as well as remove an item from the list or clear the entire queue. The audio conversion tool takes up a moderate amount of system resources, quickly finishes a task and didn't freeze, crash or display errors during our tests. There's also a brief step-by-step guide that you can check out. On the other hand, RM Audio Converter completely ruined the sound quality of several files during our tests (e.g. AVI, RM and RMVB to MP3). Plus, the interface needs some improvements and the tool makes numerous changes to the Windows registry after installation. We recommend RM Audio Converter with reservations. • Digital Audio Editor
              Digital Audio Editor

Digital Audio Editor is a software application that you can use to easily create and edit audio files. It supports many audio formats, including the well-known WAV, MP3 and OGG, as well as CDA and RAW, and encompasses a long list of features. Quick installation and simple GUIThe setup process is quite typical, running smooth and without offers from third-party products. The user interface of the program is rather plain, as it consists of a menu bar, a myriad of buttons and a panel in which to display the waveform of any uploaded item. Consequently, it is quite simple to handle, for both power and novice users. Supported file types and a few basic editing optionsThis utility supports, at import, a pretty long list of file extensions, including WAV, MPG, MP3, WMA, OGG, CDA, PCM, AIFF and AU, while export is only possible in the paid version. You can use the "Undo" and "Redo" functions, edit the left, right or both channels, copy and cut a particular section, as well as mix a selected part of the audio with another file. Start a recording and remove silence Furthermore, you can delete the silence, trim or crop the video, convert the sample type (frequency, channel and bitrate) and add a current selection to the cue list. Also, you will be able to start a recording from a connected input device. Apply a long list of effects and reduce noise In addition, you can view audio data in a waveform or spectral format, zoom in and out, change the horizontal scale format to decimal or sample, and add various effects (e.g. invert, reverse, silence, fade in and out, amplify, normalize, mix stereo channel, delay, phaser, flanger, reverb, chorus). Also, you can reduce cassette noise and voice breath from the loaded audio files, view a frequency analysis window and use hotkeys. Performance and conclusion The program takes up a low to moderate amount of system resources, which means that the computer’s performance is not going to be affected at all times. The response time is good and our tests did not reveal any major issues such as hangs or freezes during our tests. All things considered, Digital Audio Editor is a pretty handy piece of software which is suitable to both power and novice users. Reviewed by Madalina Boboc, last updated on July 25th, 2014

              McFunSoft Audio Studio

McFunSoft Audio Studio is a software application that comes equipped with several powerful tools for audio processing, including a CD burner, recorder, converter and editor. The interface of the program is clean and pretty intuitive. Adding items to the file list for conversion can be done with the help of either the file browser or 'drag and drop' functionality. Processing multiple entries simultaneously is possible. The file queue provides information on each file, such as the name, location, type and audio properties. McFunSoft Audio Studio can convert WAV, WMA, OGG, VOX, RAW and other extensions to MP3, WAV and WMA, just to name a few. Once you specify the output directory, you can immediately proceed with the encoding operation, by using the default settings. Skilled users can fiddle with the audio properties regarding the frequency, bits per sample, compress format (e.g. PCM, ULAW, GSM) and channel mode for the tracks. Unfortunately, you cannot create output profiles, or restore settings to default. In addition, you can make the app exit or turn off the computer when all tasks are done. When it comes to audio recording, you can select the sound card and recording device, as well as adjust the gain and balance. The 'Audio Editor' comes with a wide range of sound adjustment options. For instance, you can trim and crop songs, convert the sample type, toggle between the spectral and waveform viewing mode, and reduce noise (cassette or voice breath). Moreover, you can generate silence and noise, aside from applying various effects, such as fade, amplify, normalize, notch filter, delay, flanger and echo. The CD grabbing tool also lets you edit ID3 tags. McFunSoft Audio Studio uses a low amount of system resources, includes user documentation, and quickly finishes a conversion task or burning session. It delivers audio tracks with a good sound quality after the encoding operation. All in all, McFunSoft Audio Studio offers a complete solution regarding sound recording, grabbing, conversion and editing. Thanks to its intuitive layout, the app may be used by individuals of any level of experience. No recent updates have been made. Reviewed by Elena Opris, last updated on January 18th, 2013

            • Cool Audio Editor
              Cool Audio Editor

Cool Audio Editor enables you to perform various operations on audio tracks, as the name implies. It supports a few popular file types, such as MP3, OGG, WAV, WMA and CDA. The tool is wrapped in a user-friendly GUI where you can import sound files using the default file browser. Unfortunately, it doesn't give you the possibility of capturing audio stream from an external source. So, you can convert the sample type and channel mode, insert silence, mix the current file with another one, as well as cut, copy, paste or delete a selection. Evidently, songs can be previewed in a built-in audio player. Several filters are applicable to these files, such as amplification, fade in and out, compressor, delay, flanger, normalization, phaser, resample, vibrato and stretch. Furthermore, you can select another skin for the interface, as well as save the new audio track or just a particular selection to file, by specifying the output name, directory and format. Cool Audio Editor runs on a low-to-moderate quantity of CPU and memory, so it shouldn't put a strain on the overall performance. It has a fair response time and generally works well. However, it has not been updated for a very long time, and we have come across some stability issues while testing Cool Audio Editor on newer OS platforms (such as crashing when browsing for a file). Shuangs Audio Editor

In order to get just the right quality to the ear, audio files undergo post processing after they are recorded. This can also be done to any other sound using specialized applications like Shuangs Audio Editor. It's a simple utility that lets you make small adjustments to almost any sound file.Lightweight with a simple designIf you are familiar with these types of applications, you feel at home right from the start. The main workspace lets you view the imported file, to which you can zoom in and out for a cleared view or better analysis. Only a few options to work withThe application can mainly be used for minor tweaks. Available functions are displayed in an upper toolbar, but mostly consist of the load/save options and zoom ability. Available effects include and are limited to fading, adjusting volume and cutting out pieces of the audio file. Even with very few options, it is still a little difficult to use. Selection is done by setting a start and end marker, with no possibility to simply drag your mouse cursor over the desired area. Furthermore, one of the most important aspects is missing, which is the “Undo” button. This is a major inconvenience, so if you make any mistake, either the whole process has to be started from scratch or adapted to the current situation. In conclusionTo sum it up, Shuangs Audio Editor is a poor decision if you want to tweak sound files. You can only load one track at a time, and it take disturbingly too long to process even the smallest detail. The only good it provides is the possibility to boost sound up to twice the default volume. Reviewed by Mircea Dragomir, last updated on April 30th, 2014

              Audio Edit Magic

Editing audio files isn’t as complicated as it sounds, especially if you have the right tools. Audio Edit Magic is a program that enables you to record, mix, edit and add effects to audio tracks. The software comes with a simple interface and has a clean layout that should be easy to figure out. Thus, you can either create a track from scratch or load one that’s already on the hard disk. The software supports a wide range of files, such as WAV, MP3, WMA, OGG, CDA, VOX, RAW, AIF, MPC and DSP. Once loaded, the file can be viewed in the waveform display, a graph that follows the song’s amplitude. Here, you can delete any areas of the track you want or apply various effects. For example, effects such as fade in or fade out can be added, which are basically gradual increases and decreases in volume. Also, you can normalize or amplify the sound levels of the entire track. If you want, the software enables you to shift the pitch on the selected area. Furthermore, the noise created by breath or cassette tapes can be reduced. Recording additional sounds can also be done quite simply from a variety of sources, such as the microphone, audio CD and Line-in. The bottom line is that Audio Edit Magic is a useful tool that’s very easy to use. Thanks to the simple layout, all users should be able to figure out all the features this software has to offer. However, some of the more advanced functions may require extra attention. Reviewed by Gabriela Vatu, last updated on December 21st, 2012
